BOOKS! BOOKS! BOOKS!
1. The Great Gatsby by F.Scott. Fitzgerald
This is a compelling tale about the dangers of trying to achieve the "American Dream" and how it can prove to be more harmful than good. I love this book so much and I am too excited that the movie is coming out next year with the main character, Jay Gatsby, played by Leonardo DiCaprio!
2. 1984 by George Orwell
This is a story of a fictional society whose government offers the illusion of a Utopian-like existence while invading the privacy of its citizens and actively manipulating their actions. Seems rather applicable today, if I might say so. *side eye*
3. Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
Oh yes. One of the most honest and touching fictional stories about the cultural degradation of the Igbo people of Nigeria based on the time of British colonialism and the introduction of Christian missionaries. Being an Igbo girl myself the book was a definite eye-opener into the history of my people and the inevitable adjustments that had to be made during that period. Great read!
4. The Stranger by Albert Camus
I love this book! I don't want to spoil it but I must say that absurdism and existentialism are the running themes throughout this novel. I was definitely emotionally altered after this one.
That's it for now guys. I'll definitely be adding posts about other great books down the line. If you have any books you recommend please let me know!
