Fifty Shades of Grey Cont'd.
Hey guys and gals. I just finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey and I have to say it was definitely a good read. The story is quite captivating and I am ready to dive right into the second and third installments, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty shades Freed. My honest assessment of the first book is that the author definitely has a freaky side. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't read it yet but I must say that the dark, twisted, BDSM relationship between the protagonist, Anastasia Steele, and the object of her affection, Christian Grey is one that is both shocking and alluring at the same time.
The erotic scenes are definitely more sexually explicit than found in most romance novels but after initial feelings of shock and disturbance, the book becomes much easier and pleasurable to read. Personally, I have a higher tolerance than most for sexual explicitness so it wasn't hard for me to get through the book and I quite enjoyed transporting myself to the world of sexual exploration and enjoyment that the author created. Also, as you delve deeper into the description of the characters you begin to feel compassion and some form of understanding for Christian Grey and his sadomasochistic sexual preferences.
It isn't a literary masterpiece, as most critics of the book have already stated, but I do believe that it has a strong, well-developed plot that keeps the reader intrigued and unable to put the book down. I am definitely tired of the unrealistic and unoriginal fairy tales that most romance novels are made of so it was refreshing to come across such an entrancing book and I'm glad I read it. If I am to give my recommendation of this erotica novel, I rate it a solid 4/5.
